The ensemble all'improvviso stands for a stylistically pure fusion of historical improvisation and repertoire. In this way, the musicians combine the highest musical liveliness with a precisely researched performance practice.
The members of the ensemble studied at important early music institutes at universities in The Hague, Leipzig, Weimar, Bremen and Basel, among others, and currently pass on their knowledge as teachers at universities and music schools in addition to their concert activities.
The ensemble has performed at Bachfest Leipzig, the Handel Festival Halle, the Heinrich Schütz Music Festival and EX TEMPORE, among others. The ensemble also organises two historical dance balls in Leipzig every year together with dance master Mareike Greb.
The debut CD ‘Ohrwürmer auf Reisen’ was released in 2017 and the acclaimed second album ‘Ohrwürmer für Kinder’ in 2022.

CDs with Ensemble all'improvviso

Children's songs on historical instruments? Artful basso continuo to five-note melodies? Virtuoso baroque improvisations that treat children's songs like jazz standards? But yes! In everyday life with our own children, we came up with the idea of arranging the deepest roots of our treasure trove of melodies, i.e. our children's songs, and using them as the basis for improvisation. Surprisingly, the melodies, most of which were written down in the 19th century, can be harmonised very well in the style of the 17th century - they actually sound as if they were made for gut strings and basso continuo! And suddenly striking analogies emerge between the works of old masters and the children's songs: the puppet dances to Handel's Water Music, Charpentier's Te Deum becomes Sleeping Beauty's jubilant wedding music and the cuckoo calls out its springtime message to us from Anna Magdalena Bach's Notenbüchlein.
